Come take the chill off at Hotei's annual "Winter Warmer" tasting on Thursday, Feb 23, at the Pink Cow in Omotesando.
To refresh the palate we'll start with a few rare bottles of Riesling from Chateau Montelena (normally sold in the tasting room only) as well as the new Chardonnay release from Hawk Crest, Stag's Leap's 2nd label. Lush Pinots from Russian River and Santa Barbara will follow, then we'll up the thermostat a notch and try the just-arrived '04 SF Bay Zinfandel from Rosenblum, one of our all-time favorite Zin houses (and producer of the #3 wine in the world, according to this year's Wine Spectator Top 100).
As a special treat, we're pulling two mid-90's Syrah bottlings from our library (same winemaker, same vineyard, but from two very different years). If you have ever wondered how two very differently rated vintages are tasting nearly 10yrs on, this is your chance to find out!
For those still standing, we'll finish with the '02 Lagier-Meredith Syrah. This is noted vine-DNA expert Dr. Carole Meredith's cult wine (the total production for her entire winery is 500 cases) and was our favorite new discovery for the year (Parker has chimed in with rave reviews and 92 point scores as well).
As always, the Pink Cow events are casual, open-bar tastings that include Traci's signature buffet. For those who haven't been, the Pink Cow is one of Tokyo's more unique, funky art/bar spaces and is always a lot of fun. This tasting is an incredible bargain as well at only 6000 yen for those who reserve in advance (payment is in cash at the door). The event will run from 7:00-10:00pm, with the regular Cow bar continuing on till late in the evening.
