2019 Castle Rock Mendocino County Pinot Noir

2019 Castle Rock Mendocino County Pinot Noir

The wine-growing regions of Mendocino remain rural, rugged and almost out of reach by Bay Area day-trippers. Hence, the region is one of dense forests, ranches, farms, and vineyards without a lot of tourist facilities. Winegrowing in the Anderson Valley is blessed by a cool climate that allows Pinot Noir to develop wonderful aromatics and bright fruit flavors. Castle Rock’s Mendocino Pinot is a great value, a medium-bodied wine that pleases with attractive cherry and wild berry fruit as well as notes of earth, cedar and savory herbs. Lamb, chicken, salmon and light pasta dishes will all pair well with this wine.

NV Three Mendocino County Sparkling Wine

NV Three Mendocino County Sparkling Wine

Three Wine Company’s Mendocino Brut is a classic Methode Traditionnelle sparkling wine. It consists of 68% Chardonnay and 32% Pinot Noir from the 2015 vintage. The fruit was sourced from several vineyards in Mendocino County, fermented separately in stainless steel tanks before being assembled into the blend, which included 4.5% from the 2014 vintage for added complexity. As with all classic method sparkling wines, secondary fermentation inside the bottle produces the bubbles while sur lie aging yields the creamy texture and complex flavors. The winery notes, “vivid crisp Gala apple with hints of pear and lemon lead to fresh toasted bread for an elegant dry finish.” An excellent value! Highly recommended for the holidays!

2017 Dashe

2017 Dashe "Les Enfants Terribles" Mendocino Cuvee Zinfandel

Red wine lovers who won’t accept rosé as a summertime alternative, look no further. The Mendocino Cuvée is a Zin that’s complex and structured yet bright, aromatic and suitable lightly chilled. Inspired by the great “crus" of Beaujolais, this Zin is made via a technique called carbonic maceration, which produces a light ruby-colored wine that’s reduced in alcohol, intriguingly aromatic, fresh and full of flavor. Unlike your typical Zin, it has zip instead of weight, and structure without much tannin, making it a quaffable red for warm summer evenings. The grapes were sourced mainly from the Signal Ridge Vineyard in the Mendocino Ridge AVA, a high-elevation region near the Pacfic Ocean. Indeed, this vineyard is the highest in all Mendocino County, where the vines are bathed in sunlight while being cooled by maritime winds. This climate as well as the rocky soils keep yields down and produce complex and compelling wines.
