CASTLE ROCK Pinot Noir Mendocino County

2022 CASTLE ROCK Pinot Noir Mendocino County

The cool climate of the Anderson Valley AVA near the rugged Mendocino coast provides excellent conditions for growing Pinot Noir. Moreover, the rural landscape feels worlds away from the crowds and traffic jams of Napa Valley. Castle Rock’s Mendocino Pinot Noir is a wine that aims to please with a medium-bodied structure offering delicate aromas of blackberry, caramel, and cedar. The full mid-palate is highlighted by ripe strawberry leading into a long, refined finish. A great choice for your “everyday wine.” Lamb, chicken, salmon, and light pasta dishes will all pair well with this wine.

THREE Sparkling Wine Mendocino County

NV THREE Sparkling Wine Mendocino County

Three Wine Company’s Mendocino Brut is a classic Methode Traditionnelle sparkling wine. It consists of 68% Chardonnay and 32% Pinot Noir from the 2015 vintage. The fruit was sourced from several vineyards in Mendocino County, fermented separately in stainless steel tanks before being assembled into the blend, which included 4.5% from the 2014 vintage for added complexity. As with all classic method sparkling wines, secondary fermentation inside the bottle produces the bubbles while sur lie aging yields the creamy texture and complex flavors. The winery notes, “vivid crisp Gala apple with hints of pear and lemon lead to fresh toasted bread for an elegant dry finish.” An excellent value! Highly recommended for the holidays!

DASHE Zinfandel

2017 DASHE Zinfandel "Les Enfants Terribles" Mendocino Cuvee

Red wine lovers who won’t accept rosé as a summertime alternative, look no further. The Mendocino Cuvée is a Zin that’s complex and structured yet bright, aromatic and suitable lightly chilled. Inspired by the great “crus" of Beaujolais, this Zin is made via a technique called carbonic maceration, which produces a light ruby-colored wine that’s reduced in alcohol, intriguingly aromatic, fresh and full of flavor. Unlike your typical Zin, it has zip instead of weight, and structure without much tannin, making it a quaffable red for warm summer evenings. The grapes were sourced mainly from the Signal Ridge Vineyard in the Mendocino Ridge AVA, a high-elevation region near the Pacfic Ocean. Indeed, this vineyard is the highest in all Mendocino County, where the vines are bathed in sunlight while being cooled by maritime winds. This climate as well as the rocky soils keep yields down and produce complex and compelling wines.

SIX CLOVES Pinot Noir Alder Springs Vineyard

2021 SIX CLOVES Pinot Noir Alder Springs Vineyard

The Alder Springs Vineyard sits at a high elevation of between 500 m - 800 m in a remote section of northern Mendocino County. The climate is generally cool throughout the summer as the Pacific Ocean is just 20 km away. First planted in the early 1990s, the vineyard grows not only Pinot Noir but also Rhone, southern French, and Spanish varieties, planted in low-vigor soils. Because the vineyard owner has a reputation for meticulous care of his vines, the fruit is purchased by some of Northern California’s top boutique wineries. The grapes for this wine were harvested on September 6th and fermented with 50% whole clusters, aged for 10 months. The wine has complex aromas of cedar box, rosemary, and flavors of black cassis and a silky tannin texture in the mouth.
